

COLLINS, David, of Longmont, CO, died Monday, May 1, 2006 at the Peaks Care Center in Longmont. He was 90 years old.David was born on November 21, 1915 in Gary, Texas to Will Yancy and Katie B. Johns. He grew up in East Texas and Oklahoma and attended school in Hammond, Oklahoma. He married Faye Woolman on May 6, 1939 in Corpus Christi, Texas.The family moved to Colorado in 1945 where David worked as a carpenter and contractor building single family homes in the Boulder area. He enjoyed his work and spent much of his free time in related areas. He built a large, three-story cabin in Granby, Colorado, built toy boxes and toys for his family and created mosaic designs. He also made jewelry, enjoyed reading, working in his garden and was a great fan of western movies. His family was very important to him and he spent a great deal of time visiting with them during his ?free time.? His family will always remember him sitting on his porch and feeding the squirrels.Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Betty Kathleen Collins, and a brother, Melvin Collins, and a sister, Nellie Marie Pittman.David is survived by three sons: Curt D. Collins of Billings, Montana, David W. Collins of Las Vegas, Nevada, and J. D. Collins and his wife Karen of Longmont; by a step-son, Bud P. Fleming of Skiatook, Oklahoma; three sisters: Opal Downes of Kansas, Elta Jones of Oklahoma, and Bernice Bishop of Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4 at Howe Mortuary, Longmont, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Howe Mortuary. Burial will take place at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder.
