It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of David George Cotter on May 10, 2024. Born on July 10, 1949 in Chelsea, MA, to Florence and George Symonds, Dave was lovingly adopted by Gertrude and Robert Cotter. Dave lived a life full of love, faith, and service, leaving behind a legacy of commitment to his church. Dave was tenacious and intense, with a friendly personality that will be missed by all who knew him.
Dave is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret (Lazarski) Cotter, and siblings Ina (Cotter) Greene-Mitton, Robert Cotter, Mark Cotter, Marie (Symonds) Britt, and Dew (Symonds) Sheahan.
He was a proud father to his daughters, Dr. Ginger Cotter and Dr. Crystal (Cotter) Anglen, and son Florio Cotter. He was also “Papa” to 2 cherished granddaughters, Nathalie and Claire, who held a special place in his heart.
Dave's life was a testament to his dedication and service. He spent over 30 years in the Data Storage industry travelling the world, and retired as a Director of IT Operations. He was a proud military veteran, serving in the US Navy aboard the USS Patterson from 1971-1977 as Petty Officer First Class. He was a member of the local American Legion and Knights of Columbus in Frederick, CO, highlighting his commitment to service. He was a devout attendee at St. Theresa Catholic Church, establishing his legacy by pioneering a BINGO program to support the church. Throughout his life, he lent his expertise and time to several organizations, including Junior Achievement and Meals on Wheels.
Apart from service and faith, Dave was fond of recreational activities. He was an avid follower of the Denver Broncos and enjoyed afternoons of golf at the putting green. He would often be found sharing a drink and catching up with friends.
A funeral service for Dave will be held on Friday May 17, 2024 at St. Theresa Catholic Church (Frederick, Colorado). Visitation at 10:00am, rosary at 10:30am, mass at 11:00am, followed by a reception at St. Theresa at noon. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the life he led, his contributions, and the spirit that illuminated his path.
Dave Cotter was a man of many facets- a loving husband, a proud father, a doting grandfather, and a dedicated serviceman. As we bid him goodbye, we take forward his legacy of faith, kindness, and service.
