
David Garfield Johns died at his Desert residence in the Coachella Valley on Wednesday, April 28, 2010.David was born in Longmont, Colorado, on January 9, 1940.He matriculated through the public school system and attended Bethany College in Kansas as an undergraduate. David completed his Masters Degree in Art at the University of Northern Colorado. He took advanced art courses at the University of Rome, Italy, and at UCLA. His strong interest in the Arts and his considerable talent took him into the teaching profession; and he was on Staff and Faculty at a number of California Universities, retiring from the Faculty of Orange Coast College in Orange County in the late 1990's after a distinguished career.He loved the opportunity to share with students, his passion for all forms of artistic expression. He was a collector of Hung and Tong Chinese artifacts; as well as Native and Southwestern Art of the United States. He was drawn to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he maintained a residence, just off of Canyon Road, for many years. He, also, maintained his ties to Southern California, where he bought and invested in a series of homes in the Laguna Beach area. He maintained a residence in the Laguna Woods community.He took great pleasure in travelling with friends and was a Citizen of the World. He strongly believed in Arts education and was active in Animal Rescue organizations in every community in which he has lived. He will be missed by every community that his life has touched. Various memorial services have been held in Laguna Beach, Santa Fe and the Desert. Memorial Service will be 2PM on Friday, April 29, 2011 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 803 Third Avenue in Longmont.
