

Don attended Longmont and Niwot schools. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Don married Glenna Trevarton on August 9, 1955. Their daughter, Ricque, was born in Longmont. The family then moved to the Western Slope, where daughter Nancy and son Jim were born. After moving to various Colorado cities, the family settled back in Longmont. Every summer the family took a vacation, visiting such places as California, the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. Don and Glenna later divorced.
Don enjoyed fishing and hunting, the Denver Broncos, the Colorado Rockies, the Denver Nuggets, CU football and CU women’s basketball. He loved sharing his home-grown tomatoes with neighbors and was known around the block for having beautiful zinnias growing in front of his home.
Don passed away at his home on August 9, 2025. Preceding him in death were his brother Charles Cerny, and sisters Maxine Cerny, Evelyn Whisman, Alberta Clark, Dorothy Behunin and Jean Murray; his ex-wife Glenna Cerny, and his son-in-law George Johnson.
Don is survived by his three children: Ricque Johnson of Longmont, Nancy Williams and husband Mike of Rapid City, SD, and Jim Cerny and his wife Liz of Reno, NV; seven grandchildren: Keisha Matney and husband Tony of Longmont, Casey Johnson of Longmont, Mandy Valladao and husband Rob of Firestone, CO, David Williams and wife Hillary of Lincoln, NE, Taylor Cerny of Reno, NV, Tori Cerny of Reno, NV and Tucker Cerny of Reno, NV; and five great-grandchildren: Kayla Matney of Loveland, Haylee Matney of Greeley, Rye Valladao of Firestone, Emma Williams and Freddie Williams of Lincoln, NE, and his beloved dog Remy.
Don is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life will be held on August 29, 2:00-5:00 PM at Centennial Lanes, 110 E. 9th Avenue, Longmont, CO. Memorial contributions may be made to Woof & Willow Puppy Rescue or the American Legion.
