

Donald Ward, 87, of Colorado passed away surrounded by family on February 17th, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Don was born a tenacious and curious boy on May 31, 1934, to George and Myrtle Ward in Cripple Creek, CO. The youngest of four children. After attending Cripple Creek High School, Don went on to join the Air Force before marrying Lois, his high school sweetheart. Going on to work at Gulf Oil for 13 years, he retired from Public Service in 1994 after 20 years. He also volunteered at the SW Adams Fire Department.
Endlessly passionate about life and loving nothing more than to make someone laugh or smile. Always a prankster, you never knew what he was up to. A force of nature, determined to make the most of everyday, Don was an advocate and protector of children, not only his own but all the children in the area. He was Cub Scout Master, Boy Scout Master, a driving force in the “Helping Hands” child safety program, and while volunteering at SW Adams Fire department he fully embraced the role of “Freddy Foolish” to teach fire safety to children.
Survived by his loving wife, Lois, and three children Danny Ward (Rhonda), Gaylene Pegg (Gary), Kandy Kernes (Keith), Five Grandchildren, 12 Great-Grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of life on Sunday, March 27th, 2022 from 11:00AM to 2:00PM at the Kernes Family Residence in Brighton. Please RSVP at (818) 519-0991. A graveside service will also be held May 28th at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Cripple Creek.
The family asks, in lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and/or the Wounded Warrior Project.
