Donna Jean Jorgensen was a dynamic beauty who lived a life full of accomplishments, influence, passion, and love. She was born in 1931 in Marquette, Nebraska. As the youngest of 6, she had the freedom to run wild, gaining a mischievousness that would follow her through her life. She fell for the neighbor boy who often snuck under the fence to see her. That neighbor boy, Roger Jorgensen, is quoted as saying, “I always love that little shit. There was never a time I didn’t think she loved me. And there never was a time; even when we were dating other people, that I didn’t think… that’s my gal.” In the Summer of 1952, that gal and that sneaky farm boy met each other at the altar. In the presence of our Lord, they promised to love each other and care for each other for eternity. And that was what they did. An accomplishment held by few and envied by many.
Donna became a mother of 4 while chasing her dreams of being a working artist and teacher. With an unlimited amount of inspiration, she used any and every tool to create. From being an illustrator to an architect, and so many other mediums in between.
She had many personality traits that made up who she was. Such a dynamic woman, unlike anyone else.
She was strong-willed and outspoken, living out her values through words and actions. Even losing her temper from time to time.
Her generosity had no borders. She often donated her time and money where it was needed. She would give you the shirt off of her back or even the bracelet off of her wrist.
Donna was easy to talk to, hilarious, unfiltered, and often had the mouth of a sailor all though she would most likely deny it.
She was cheeky up to her last days. Pushing the limits of what it means to grow up. Sticking her tongue out and throwing food in search for a good laugh.
She was a nurturing grandmother, taking care of her grandchildren as if they were her own. When the kids were sick or wanted to play hooky from school, it was Donna that would be there for them. Some of the best memories were of sleepovers. Donna loved scaring the kids by creeping through the dark while dragging one foot along the carpet. Creating an uproar of laughter amongst the little ones.
She loved to sing and play the piano. Reminiscing and telling of the old days when her older brother would play boogie woogie. Even in her last days, hardly able to speak, you could get her to sing Jesus Loves Me This I Know.
Her faith in Jesus Christ as our savior was fundamental in her marriage to Roger and the raising of their children. Extending through to the younger generations.
She taught her family how to love whole heartily , to stand for what they believe, to be genuine to who they and to always love Jesus.
Thank you, Donna. You will forever be loved and remembered.
