
Edward F. Korn of Longmont, Colorado, formerly of Zanesville, Ohio died August 13, 2012 at the Atria Senior Living facility in Longmont. He was born January 26, 1916, in Zanesville, Ohio to Theodore and Eva (Longstreth) Korn. He resided in Zanesville his entire life until moving to Longmont with his wife in 2003. Ed graduated from Rosecrans High School in 1934 and farmed in the Zanesville area until he entered the Army in 1943. He served during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations as part of the 9th Air Defense Command, Battery D of the 795th Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion. He was in charge of the Anti Aircraft Range Section NCO 527 and supervised a crew of 8 men. His unit landed on Utah Beach in France as part of the D day operations. He fought in the Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns and his unit was attached to General Patton's Army on the final push through France. Decorations and citations he received included the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle East Campaign Medal with four Bronze Service Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. Ed returned to his hometown of Zanesville, Ohio in January of 1946 and joined McGraw Edison as a machinist. He was employed there until he retired in 1978. He met his wife Mary Lou in March of 1946; they were married in May of 1946 and enjoyed 63 years of life together until her death in 2009. Ed was a member of Euclid Avenue United Methodist church in Zanesville. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby, making furniture and crafts for family and friends and he loved to play various card games. He never met a dog that he didn't like or that didn't like him. He traveled extensively with his wife throughout the United States and Canada and took trips to the British Isles and Europe. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three siblings, his step-son, David R. Cohagan and a grandson, Douglas Shaver. Survivors include three daughters, Dianne L. Reese (John) of Lakeland, Florida, Christine E. Shaver (Bruce) of Longmont and Sally Hale of Longmont; eight grandchildren, David Cohagan, Jr., Rebecca Cohagan, Joseph Cohagan, Deborah Dixon, Lori Murphy, Scott Shaver, Stacey Tinch and Melissa France; one step grandchild, Michelle Thomas; eighteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday August 25th at 2:00 PM at the Atria Senior Living facility at 2310 9th Avenue in Longmont. Memorial contributions may be made to the Longmont Humane Society or Front Range Hospice and sent to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
