Edward Joseph Picard, 89, of Longmont, set sail on Feb 5, 2016. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at home.
Growing up in Muskegon,MI, he was active in church, football and Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle. He is a Navy Veteran and graduated with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Detroit. He was an active member in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary (47 years and still serving) and a 67 year member in the Knights of Columbus; most recently at St John the Baptist church in Longmont, CO.
He married Berniece (Barbrick deceased 1983) and raised a family of three; first in the Detroit area, then in Libertyville Illinois. His career in the stainless steel business took him all over the world.
Lucky in love, 8 years later he courted and married Constance LaRusso, celebrating their 24th wedding anniversary last year. They moved to Colorado 10 years ago, landing in Grand Junction and then moving Longmont 5 years ago.
He is survived wife, Constance, and by his 2 daughters, a son, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and an extended family.

Granddaughter Jessica Daily (Brian) and great grandson Oliver of Eugene OR: Grandson Robert Krueger (Nicole) and great granddaughter, Jamison of Aurora CO: Daughter Barbara Savino (David) and grandsons Dominic and Daniel of Des Plaines IL: Son Edward (Barbara) of Arvada CO. His extended family Includes: Ramona (David) Frederickson and their son Sam of Evanston, IL: Raymond LaRusso of Longmont CO: Mary LaRusso of Chicago, IL: Joseph LaRusso (Eva) and his daughter Jessica of Tucson, AZ: Cara O’Malley (Michael) and grandchildren Audrey and John of Broomfield, CO
He had 3 passions; sailing, hockey and the Packers.
He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, in a family full of Chicago Bears fans.
He prided himself with membership in “working man’s yacht clubs”. Early, he joined Port Huron, Michigan and later the club in Racine Wisconsin (where he was one of the oldest members). He owned and sailed his own vessel and was always around the water and boats. His sailing included racing as crew in some of the major amateur Lake Michigan races including Port Huron –Mackinac; the Chicago-Mackinac; the Queens Cup and the Hook to name a few. He loved to race and he loved Lake Michigan.
Hockey was a part of the family culture in Muskegon. His dad was a goal judge for the local minor team and played locally. Gordy Howe was his hero. He refereed junior hockey in his younger days and always enjoyed University of Denver college hockey games.

Visitation will be will from 1-4 pm on Weds Feb 10 at Howe Mortuary, and a Mass at 11 a.m. on Thursday Feb 11 at St John the Baptist Church in Longmont.
