Evelyn Mae Nicholson

Evelyn Mae Nicholson, of Longmont, Colorado, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at her home. She was 86 years old.Evelyn was born August 18, 1921 in Kersey, Colorado, to Pryor Newton and Jennie (Henniger) Bell. She grew up and attended schools in Kersey and later in the Rinn area at Idaho Creek School.On August 26, 1938, Evelyn married Joseph Clifford Nicholson in Longmont. With their young family, they lived for a brief time in Missouri before returning to Colorado. They farmed for a few years near Rinn and Fort Lupton before moving to Longmont in 1949. Mrs. Nicholson had worked at Longmont Foods, as a housekeeper at Valeda Village, and retired in the early 1980s from the St. Vrain Valley School District as a cook at Spangler Elementary.She was an avid fan of Colorado sports teams including the Broncos, Rockies and the University of Colorado Buffaloes. Evelyn cherished family gatherings and especially enjoyed holiday meals. Her family recalls her delicious fried chicken, homemade pies, and her love of ""visiting"".She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on October 13, 1992; two daughters, Betty Jo and Mary Nicholson; two brothers, Charles and Willis Bell; and two sisters, Hazel Shuler and Mary Roberts.Evelyn is survived by three sons, J. C. Nicholson and his wife, Marna, of Firestone, Robert Nicholson and his wife, Jeanette, of Delta, and Jerry Nicholson and his wife, Carol, of Longmont; three daughters, Faye O'Nan and her husband, Zeke, of Longmont, Joyce Welch and her husband, David, of Thornton, and Wanda Kucera and her husband, Ken, of Westminster; a brother, Pryor ""Junior"" Bell, of Dacono; and two sisters, Ruth Holmes of Colorado Springs, and Stella Denne of Palm Desert, California. She is further survived by 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services, Longmont.
