Frank Vincent Buzzetta (Buzz), 83, passed away on February 7, 2017 at Longmont United Hospital. The official cause of death was Pneumonia but he also suffered from heart disease, COPD, Spinal Stenosis and throat cancer all during the past few years, and all contributing to his failing health.
Frank was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 14, 1933 and married Rose Elaine Bonello in Los Angeles, California on October 18, 1953. Frank and Rose made the decision to marry young because of Frank’s impending draft during the Korean war. They wanted to start their lives together before he was sent overseas. Happily for the newly married couple, the war ended and Frank was sent to Germany where he served for 18 months at the medical base in Landstuhl. It was only after he came home that they were able start their family.
Frank retired from the Long Beach Naval Shipyard in Long Beach California at 55 years old. He began his career as an apprentice and subsequently became an Electronic Maintenance Mechanic and Welder. During his long tenure with the Federal Civil Service he earned numerous awards through the Navy’s Bugsy Snuggs award program for his constant cost savings suggestions. The highlight of his certificate and awards notebook is a signed letter from President Gerald Ford thanking him for his service and dedication.
Frank’s children were raised in the outdoors learning things like fishing off the pier, crabbing, camping, prospecting and rock collecting. His love of all things in nature was passed on and lives on in those he loved. He also enjoyed his vast coin collection, his Coca Cola card collection, his baseball card collection and his gardening hobby. As his spinal stenosis impaired his ability to work in an outside garden, he moved on to container gardening and helped to supply seedlings in the spring to all of his family and friends.
Frank is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rose Buzzetta (Bonello), his son, Salvatore Buzzetta (Sharon) of Fort Lupton, Colorado, his daughters, Rosemarie Buzzetta of Reno, Nevada, Catherine Wolf (Stuart) of Erie, Colorado and Theresa Rosenfield (Robert) of Frederick, Colorado, his grandchildren, Michelle Jackman, Jessica Klein (Carl), Gina Homan (Russell), Tamara Buzzetta, Ronald Huddleston (Valerie), Jason Wolf (Ashley), Timothy Rosenfield (Hailey) , Steven Rosenfield and Kendra Buzzetta and Great Grandchildren, Bradley, Annica, Makenna, Emersyn, Ellington, Emma, Mason, Madison, Avery, Lillian and Finley.
