Fred Kupilik was born August 6th, 1934 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Charles and Anna Kupilik. The Family moved to Longmont in 1946 after also living in Windsor and Ovid, Colorado. While attending 7th grade in Longmont he met his future wife, Georgella Hays, after throwing a snowball and hitting her in the eye. He graduated from Longmont high school in 1952 and married Georgie, his childhood sweetheart in 1956. After graduating from the University of Colorado in Boulder, with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he and Georgie moved to Palo Alto, California after accepting a job with Sylvania Microwave. Three years later Fred received an unsolicited job offer from Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin) only to find out that his wife Georgie had sent his application without his knowledge because she missed Colorado. Fred accepted the job and they moved, together with their firstborn son Ken to Littleton, Colorado where daughter Ann and son John were born. Fred retired in 1994 after 35 years with Martin Marietta and he and Georgie moved to their mountain home in Allenspark, Colorado where they lived until the big flood in 2013 brought them to Longmont.
Fred loved the outdoors where he enjoyed skiing, camping, hiking, hunting, golf and especially fly-fishing. He and Georgie loved their RV where Fred could catch fish and Georgie would cook them up. Campfires surrounded by friends and family was Fred’s great joy. Georgie and Fred spent many months each year as “snowbirds” traveling from their mountain home in Allenspark, to their home in Chandler Arizona each winter.
Fred is preceded in death by his wife Georgie; parents Charles and Anna Kupilik and brother Charles Junior. Fred’s dear sister, Margaret Ellen Kupilik, of Fort Collins, Colorado passed away June 17, 2021, after suffering a fall. She was 92.
Fred is survived by his three children, Ken Kupilik and John Kupilik (Karen), both of Littleton, Colorado; daughter Annie Crane (John), of Fort Collins, Colorado; grandson Matthew Crane, of Fort Collins, Colorado; sister-in-law Arloa Kupilik, of Willow Creek California; nieces, nephews and dear friend, Sally Sardakowski of Arvada, Colorado. A service will be held at Howe Mortuary on Friday, June 25th at 11:00.
