Glenn LeRoy Schelhaas

Glenn LeRoy Schelhaas, 73, of Longmont, CO died Monday, November 25, 2013 peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.He was born September 11, 1940, in Edgerton, MN to Conrad and Ella (Hofkamp) Schelhaas. He graduated from Edgerton High School May, 1958. He enlisted in the US Army November, 1958 and was honorably discharged in February, 1962. Glenn received his Bachelor of Science degree majoring in accounting from Mankato State College, Mankato, MN in March, 1968. He married Violet (Vi) Milbrath of Okabena, MN on October 29, 1965. He worked for major Co-ops as their chief accountant and CFO in MN, MI and CO. He retired in 2002 from Agland (Agfinity) in Eaton, CO. Glenn and his family have lived in Longmont, CO since August, 1978. He served on the Board of Directors of Pinnacol Assurance from April, 2000 “ April, 2002. Glenn enjoyed all sports, especially watching the MN Vikings. He loved golfing every week with his dear friends. Glenn enjoyed volunteering to help other people by driving them to Dr. appointments or just visiting with them in their time of need. He loved walking around McIntosh Lake with his wife every morning and rejoicing in God's creation of the beautiful mountains. He was an integral part of his grandchildren's life and loved spending time with them doing and teaching them new and exciting activities. He was a very active grandfather and loved being involved in their lives. His favorite place to travel to was Maui. He said that was the closest thing to paradise. His family and friends were very important to him. He always said they were all a gift from God. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Longmont, for several years and recently became a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Collins, where he was just beginning his involvement in their mission, Connecting People to Jesus.He is survived by his wife, Vi, of 48 years; his daughter, Pam (Dennis) McGrath of Aurora, CO; his son, Ryan (Angela) Schelhaas and their two children, Kylie and Carson, of Cheyenne, WY; his brother Bert (Reona) Schelhaas of Edgerton, MN; his sister Hazel Prinz of Dassel, MN, his sister Phyllis (Evert) Krosschell of Edgerton, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Ella Schelhaas and his brother, Ed Schelhaas, A memorial service celebrating his life, with military honors, will be held on Friday, December 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 7755 Greenstone Trail, Fort Collins, CO.
