Grant Auburn Bauer

Grant Auburn Bauer of Loveland passed away March 14, 2012 at his home. He was 91.Grant was born on July 5, 1920 in Longmont to Herman Frederick and Mary Grace (Luekens) Bauer. He graduated from Longmont High School and then went to Opportunity School in Denver.Grant married Alice Graham on July 17, 1949 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Grant worked for Safeway and managed meat markets in his high school days. In 1939 Grant moved to Steamboat Springs to work for his uncle Claude Luekens at Luekens Motors managing the auto parts department until 1967 with time off for World War II. During the war he worked in Mountain Home, ID Air Force Base as a machinist. In 1962 Grant took up a second job as a rural mail carrier sub and then later moved to the downtown office where he worked as a mail clerk for more than 20 years, retiring in June of 1983. In 1998 Grant and Alice moved to Loveland.Grant was a member of the Steamboat Springs Golf Club. He bowled in local leagues and traveled all over the USA to bowl in national tournaments. Grant raised a loving family and had a knack of being loved by everyone he met. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, stamp collecting and coin collecting. Grant is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Bauer, and a sister, Helen Bauer.Grant is survived by his wife, Alice; a son, Robert Bauer (Aechin); a daughter, Janice L. Bump (Al); two brothers, Ronald Bauer and Donald Bauer; two sisters, Betty Evig and Marilyn O'Connell, three grandchildren, Laura McDonald (Chris), Lawrence McGrew, and Holle Bauer Schaper (Kevin); two great grandchildren, Johannah McDonald and J lle McDonald and numerous nieces and nephews.A Celebration of Grant's life will be 1:00pm Sat.
