A true Denver native, Harry was born in Denver in 1920. He attended South High School, and graduated with the Class of 1939. As a young man searching for a career, Harry turned to what he loved best: motor sports. He began Harry's Transmissions in a tiny shop on Santa Fe Drive. That small beginning would ultimately grow into the largest standard transmission company in the Rocky Mtn. West. Harry's Transmissions has been a Denver landmark for over 60 years. But Harry not only loved to work on cars, he loved to race them as well. From a hobby which began with midgets and sprint cars at Lakeside Motor Speedway, Harry would ultimately race cars throughout the U.S. and Australia. He would win both the National Midget Championship and numerous RMMRA championships. Elected a member of both the CO Motor Sports Hall of Fame and the National Midget Racing Hall of Fame, Harry was truly a founding father of CO motor racing. He is survived by Louise Conklin, his beloved wife of 68 years. Services will be held 11:00am on Mon. Jan. 16, 2012 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Denver. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Beagle Rescue of CO, or any animal shelter of your choice.
