

Irene was born on March 1, 1927 on a farm near Chase, Kansas to Henry and Lena (Blank) Ankerholz. She grew up in Chase and graduated from Chase High School. Irene started work during high school as a telephone operator and continued during World War II. She married Allan G. Kennedy on November 29, 1946 in Bushton, Kansas.
The Kennedy family moved to Longmont from Sterling, Kansas in 1959. Allan and Irene were members of the First United Methodist Church where she was involved in circles and Holiday Fair. She worked at Dean’s Fashion, Leanin Tree, and Joslins but her most important job was being a wife, mother, and grandmother and taking care of family. Irene enjoyed sewing and belonged to sewing clubs and doing cross-stitch.
Mrs. Kennedy was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Richard Ankerholz, and three half brothers and sister. Irene is survived by her husband Allan; two daughters: Denise (Joe) Winslow of Mead and Kathy (Robert) Turner of Avondale, AZ; six grandchildren: Nathan (Shanna), Colin (girlfriend Jessica Carbajal), Robert (Sondra), Tyrone (Jamie), Tamara, and Beronica; eight great grandchildren; a brother Edward Ankerholz, sister Joyce Cheuvront, sister-in-law Marian Ankerholz, all of Kansas, and brother and sister-in-law Willis and Florence Revel of Longmont.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at Howe Mortuary on Sunday, August 21. Funeral services will be at Howe Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 22. Burial will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
