Jack Stringer

Jack Stringer, 87, of Longmont, CO, passed away May 9, 2015 at Longmont United Hospital. Jack was born on October 15, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA to Jack Edward and Sara Helverson (Besson) Stringer.Jack graduated from Boulder High School in 1945. He enlisted with the United States Army from 1947-1948 and served in Nome, Alaska as Entertainment Specialist. He was an AFRS radio announcer, programmer and script writer. After his time in the service, Jack graduated from the Philadelphia Museum School of Art in Industrial Design in 1952.Design was Jack's passion and he designed anything and everything. He spent his career (1952-1990) with IBM as an Industrial Design Manager, working with a team of talented designers and received several awards and patents during this time. His career took him from Endicott, NY to San Jose, CA and finally to Boulder, CO.Jack was interested in architecture and throughout the years, he designed 12 properties in the Longmont area as well designing and building three homes for his family.Jack married Janet Leeson and they enjoyed 65 years together. He was devoted to his wife, family and loved get-togethers with family and friends. He was a gourmet cook and enjoyed good food. He loved the big band era music and a night out dancing. He was a great storyteller, a joker, enjoyed watching birds, camping, traveling, reading and history. He was a skilled wood worker and loved to design and create stained glass windows.Jack was preceded in death by his parents and brother Harry McDevitt Stringer.Jack is survived by his wife Janet, daughter Gale Elstun (Jennifer Brown) of Lyons, CO, sons Wade Stringer of Syracuse, NY, Scot Stringer and John Stringer (Cheri) of Longmont, CO, Mark Stringer (Anita) of Petoskey, MI, 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and his beloved dog Jessie.Memorial service will be at 3pm, Friday, May 15, 2015 at Longs Peak United Methodist Church in Longmont.
