

JAMES ""JIM"" BALL, 46, of Longmont, died May 1, 2009 at his home.Jim was born November 11, 1962 in Brigham City, Utah, the son of James Kent and Karon Johnston Ball. The family moved to Longmont in 1980 and Jim graduated from Skyline High School in 1981. After completing high school, Jim entered the U.S. Army, serving from 1983 to 1986. On September 25, 1992 he married Suzanne ""Suzie"" Golden in Longmont.Jim joined the Golden Companies in 1986, serving in a number of capacities to better the company in anyway he could. In 1999, he decided to run his own trucking business, before purchasing Spurr Concrete in 2000. He later merged with Four Star Foundation and Flatwork in 2006 to the present with his brother-in- law Jim. Together they expanded from doing commercial to residential work including driveways and foundations. Jim was an avid outdoorsman; he spent as much time as possible with nature. He had a great passion for fishing, hunting, both birds and big game. He had the distinct joy of introducing his son to the wilds this past fall, bear hunting in Canada with long time friend Jeff Nissen and his son Austin. He also enjoyed sneaking away for the weekend to his parent's place on the Colorado/Wyoming border to enjoy nature. He was also talented at training his hunting dogs. Fond of country dancing, he enjoyed taking his wife and sweeping her off her feet. A self taught artist, he worked strictly with ink and pencil, spending many hours drawing outdoor scenes. Jim was a passionate hockey fan. Not only was he an investor of the Colorado Eagles Hockey Team he had a special friendship with all the players and coach. The team made a special trip to come personally visit Jim at his home on their way while leaving town on a road trip. He had an ongoing joke with the coach that if the team was losing they should fire the coach.Jim was a member of LifeBridge Christian Church and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Survivors include his parents James and Karon Ball of Longmont, wife Suzie Ball of Longmont, daughters Ashley (Cody) Brooks of Johnstown, CO and Karlee Ball of Longmont; a son J.D. Ball, of Longmont. Jim is further survived by his sister Dianna (Ronald) Ooten, Corinth, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Howe Mortuary Chapel.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at LifeBridge Christian Church with Rick Rusaw officiating. Interment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Cancer Research Fund in care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, CO 80501.
