James "Jim" Wayne Burback, 66, of Longmont, Colorado passed away April 6, 2012 at Berthoud Living Center. After many years of pain and suffering because of his illness, Jim is at peace now in the hands of God for eternity.
On November 4, 1945 he was born to Pete and Lydia Burback in Longmont, Colorado. On December 8, 1990 he married Judy Pope in Longmont. She was not only his wife, but his best friend. Together they worked in spite of his diabetes. He spent a two year tour of duty in the U. S. Army from 1966-1968 during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. Truck driving was always in his blood. In 1993 Jim and Judy fulfilled Jim's dream of owning a trucking company, J/J Trucking. Later Jim had to retire because of his illness. Jim loved to fish and go camping. He also enjoyed having a spot at Beaver Lake. He was most proud of being a Life member of Longmont American Legion Post #32 and Firestone Post #1985, and VFW Post #2601, Longmont. In all three he held the office of commander, and other duties, while putting in countless hours volunteering. He was also part of the 40/8 group with the American Legion in Boulder.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Lesa Hansen; stepson Timothy Sowell; three sisters Dorothy Wilson, Norma Peters, and Cathy Aschenbrenner; and by one brother Delbert Burback; a sister-in-law Cheryl Chancellor; and his father-in-law Dave Pope. He is survived by his wife Judy; a son Chris Burback; mother-in-law JoAnn Pope; grandchildren Morgan Hansen, Jacob Sowell, and Allie Hansen; two sisters Rose Fiechtner and Marilyn Skees (Dan); and a brother Gary Burback (Silvia). Memorial services were Wednesday April 11, 2012 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Military Honors by American Legion Post 32, Longmont. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions to the Jim Burback Memorial Fund, which his family will use to support Jim's favorite charities, can be sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
