

James Hampton RodgersSept. 10, 1920 – July 27, 2008""FULL OF HONORS, FULL OF YEARS""James Hampton Rodgers of Lyons, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his home July 27, 2008. He was born on September 10, 1920, in Aurora, Colorado to George and Irene (Seltzer) Rodgers. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1937, and from the University of Denver in 1941, majoring in Chemical Engineering. He married Evelyn Baily in 1945, while serving in the Navy. They lived in Ohio while Jim worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.They moved back to Colorado from Ohio with their three children in 1957. Jim worked for Beech Aircraft, the Boulder division, until his retirement. He was a manager in both the Manufacturing and Engineering departments and was a member of professional Engineering, Manufacturing and Astronautical societies. He worked on the design and manufacturing of an oxygen tank that went to the Moon on Apollo 11. He was able to attend launches and meet the original astronauts.Jim also was a fisherman, hunter and gunsmith. He held the ""expert"" classification of marksman and was a black powder enthusiast and instructor. He enjoyed his memberships in the American Legion, VFW and the Odd Fellows, participating in many of their service projects over the years. He held a pilot's license in 1940 and a surveyor's license in 2000.Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn on April 10, 2008. He is survived by his children, Jane (Brian) Stevens, Jeffrey (Selina) Rodgers, and Jeralyn (Mike) Edwards-Berner; grandchildren, Brent Crispin, Jason Crispin, and Rebecca Edwards; and three great grandchildren.A graveside service will be held in the Lyons Cemetery on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. The family requests that donations be made to HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Suite A, Lafayette, CO 80026.Please share thoughts, memories and condolences with the family at www.howemortuary.com.
