

Jim's ObituaryMARTINSEN James H. ""Jim"", 67, of Estes Park, CO, formerly of Niwot, CO died Aug. 27, 2009 at his home in Estes. He was the son of A.C. Marty Martinsen and Ellen (Hodge)Martinsen. He was born Dec.21, 1941 in St. Stevens, New Brunswick because it has the closest hospital to where his parents were living in Calais, Maine. Jim received his education from both Marquette and Villanova Universities. He worked for Catalytic Construction in Philadelphia., then began selling water treatment equipment for C. R. Swaney Co. Inc. equipment in Connecticut until 1975. He moved to Colorado in 1982 and founded Falcon Supply Company in Niwot, which has served the Rocky Mountain region for 31 years selling water treatment equipment. He and his wife had recently purchased Wings West, a restaurant in Estes Park. Jim was a tireless volunteer, taking an active role in the communities he lived. He was involved with Niwot Youth Sports, Indian Peaks Girls Softball, and helped start the Developmentally Challenged Softball Program. He faithfully served on the St Vrain Valley School Board for 8 years, the Boulder County Planning Commission, Board of Niwot Sanitation District, League of Women Voters (Estes Park), the Otters Swim Club and Estes Park Learning Place as a board member and was a mediator of Restorative Justice (Estes Park). Jim always enjoyed hiking from the time he was a boy scout in Tennessee, treasured the ocean, loved good food and wine, was dedicated to the well-being of others, and cherished his home in Estes Park with a beautiful view of Longs Peak. On July 7, 2007 he married Dawn Haeker Hobson in Estes Park.Jim is preceded in death by his parents and his brother John Martinsen.Jim is survived by his wife Dawn Martinsen of Estes Park, his children Lara Martinsen-Burrell (Neil) of Waverly, Iowa, Matthew Martinsen of Denver, Kevin Martinsen of Niwot, and their mother Lee Martinsen of Niwot, his beloved Lianna ""Mabel"" Martinsen, his sister Jo Ellen Logan (Michael Ziadeh) of Toronto, his step children Chris Hobson (Amanda) of Longmont, and Kathryn Hobson (Jill Schladweiler)of Estes Park, his grandchildren Rose Martinsen-Burrell of Waverly, Iowa, and Aidan and Ami Hobson of Longmont, and his honorary grandchildren Teresa and Alan Collingwood of Estes Park, his nephew David Martinsen of Connecticut, his niece Debbie Odorizzi (Rich) of Illinois, and many dear friends. Visitation hours will be held on Monday, August 31, at the Howe Mortuary Chapel from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday September 1 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 2 at the YMCA of the Rockies Hyde Chapel, indoors, with Chaplain Earl Matson officiating. The family requests that all those attending , not wear ties or suit coats.Interment will follow at the Estes Park Memorial Gardens.Contributions may be made to the Jim Martinsen Memorial Fund for Restorative Justice Fund or Hospice of Estes Park.
