

Janet Jane Melick, 84, died on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Rocky Mountain Assisted Living in Centennial, Colorado where she was welcomed as one of the Golden Girls of Glencoe Avenue. She was born on September 26, 1932 in High Bridge, Iowa, to Carl Prentiss Brown and Catherine Helen (Stanish) Brown. She moved with her family to Colorado at the age of five and graduated from Erie High School in 1950, where she played basketball and was on the cheerleading squad. On February 13, 1953 she married her high school sweetheart, Steve John Melick of Frederick, Colorado.
Janet worked for a number of years as a principal buyer with Rocky Flats, Neo Data, and also in food service at Erie High School. As an active member of her community, Mrs. Melick had served as president of the PTA, and attended Saint Scholastic Catholic Church. Steve and Janet moved to Westminster in 1977. They were members of St. Mark’s Catholic Church where she enjoyed her involvement with the St. Mark’s Ladies Aid where she was known for her deviled eggs. Janet was a talented seamstress, enjoyed cooking, and was a gracious hostess at family and neighborhood gatherings. There was always room at Mom’s table for one more. She had a gift with children, her generous heart opened up to them and she loved them like her own.
Mrs. Melick is survived by her son, Michael S. Melick (wife, Judy) of Englewood, Colorado; daughter Patricia K. Fearn of Lakewood, Colorado; grandchildren, Sean Melick, Katie (Melick) Roehrs (husband, Caleb), Adam Fearn (wife, Melissa), and Erin Fearn; and great granddaughters, Ayden and Avery Fearn and Stella Jane Roehrs. She is further survived by her sister, Lucille Shiere of Westminster, CA. Preceding her in death was her husband of 55 years, Steve Melick, her parents Carl and Catherine Brown, Ben Brown (brother), and Betty Hurd (sister).
Viewings will be held at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO, on Monday, July 10th from 5:00PM-7:00PM and on Tuesday, July 11th from 11:00AM- 3:00PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Scholastica Catholic Church, 615 Main St., Erie, CO on Saturday, July 15th, at 10:00 am, with internment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery to follow.
