She was born Janice Ellen Sillick on June 10, 1941, in Rochester, New York, the first child of John and Vera Bruder Sillick. She attended Nazareth Academy in Rochester and earned an M.A. in Education/Reading from Nazareth College.
Throughout her life, she embraced her vocations with devotion and grace. As a young woman, she entered religious life with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, dedicating herself to faith and service.
In time, she followed a call to marriage and motherhood, roles she cherished deeply. She married Richard J. Mandile in 1971, and together they built a loving partnership that spanned nearly 55 years.
A lifelong teacher, she shaped young minds in the classroom and in the community, continuing to teach, mentor, and encourage others well into her retirement.
Janice nurtured many social connections through her parish communities. She also found joy in tending her garden in Niwot, preparing meals for her family, and tracing her family’s roots across generations. She now joins those generations in eternal rest, where perpetual light shines upon her.
She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Mandile of Niwot; her sons, Christopher Mandile of Colorado Springs, Gregory Mandile (Nicole) of Loveland, and Andrew Mandile (Diann) of Longmont; her sisters, Theresa Standing (Thomas) of Gates Mills, Ohio, and Mary Frances Sillick of Eugene, Ore.; her brothers, Paul V. Sillick (Liz) of Vestal, N.Y., and Daniel J. Sillick (Barbara) of Hilton, N.Y.; her sisters-in-law Kathleen Sillick and Laurie Eisele; her brothers-in-law Vincent Guida (Valerie) of Keyport, N.J. and Robert Strittmatter (Norine) of New Rochelle, N.Y., and many dear nieces and nephews. She was a loving grandmother to Jayden, Keegan, Eliza, and August Mandile, who brought her immeasurable joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Vera Sillick; her brothers, John Stephen and Patrick Edward Sillick; and her beloved daughter, Elizabeth Mandile Borlik.
She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Memorial donations in her honor may be made to the Young Survivors Coalition (YSC).
