Jean Elizabeth Sterkel

Jean Elizabeth Sterkel 7/23/29 – 12/4/23, aged 94, was predeceased by her beloved husband Pete Sterkel. Jean was born in Berthoud Colorado on July 23rd, 1929 to Louis H. Dreith and Eva (Breisch) Dreith and was the youngest sibling to Floyd Dreith, Charles Dreith and Robert Dreith. She grew up on the family farm in Berthoud and graduated from Berthoud High School in 1947.

Jean married Pete Sterkel on 11/07/48 in Berthoud Colorado. They were childhood friends, high school sweethearts and lifelong companions over 72 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Jean and Pete’s children are Thomas J. Sterkel, deceased (Sarah) and Gale S. Stoakes (Jack). Their grandchildren are Brandie Newsham (Michael Matteson), Brittany McDermott (Jeff McDermott) and Tenley Sterkel. The final generation they loved are their great grandchildren Kylie, Morgan, Hannah, Greyson, Hunter, Nadia and Alicia. Jean loved being a homemaker and later worked at Longmont United Hospital.

Family and traveling were Jean’s passions. Destinations included all 50 states. The highlights for Jean and Pete were camping trips to Alaska and the Canadian Provinces. They enjoyed many international tours and cruises visiting 80 countries around the world.

A celebration of life for Jean and Pete Sterkel will be held this coming spring.
