Jesse Houston Bates

Jesse Bates, born January 22, 1932, near Strasburg, Colorado, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, in Longmont, Colorado at 92 years young. Jesse lived a life marked by love, dedication, and remarkable achievements, leaving behind a legacy cherished by family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolee Bates, whom he married on February 21, 1958; his daughter, Christi Deeter, and her husband, Randy; his son, Steven Bates, and his wife, Pat; and his son, Michael Bates, and his wife, Jenny. Jesse is also remembered fondly by his eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Alma Bates; his brother, Chuck Bates; his sister, Genevive Helming; and one grandson, Mark Pederson.

Jesse's distinguished career included serving in the Navy, followed by years as a cartographer and draftsman in the oil and gas industry and with the City of Longmont. His work was a source of pride and accomplishment.

In his personal life, Jesse found great joy in being outdoors, he enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing with family and friends. He also spent countless hours solving crosswords and sudoku puzzles, which he loved dearly.

A man of few complaints and abundant grace, Jesse was known for his unwavering wit and the respect he extended to everyone around him. His generosity and kindness made every interaction a pleasure, and he was a joy to be with. His positive spirit and fairness made a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jesse Bates had a rich and fulfilling life and is now at peace with his Savior. He will be deeply missed, but his memory and the impact he made on those around him will forever be cherished.

A celebration of life for Jesse will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado 80501. Following the celebration of life will be a reception at 2:00 PM at Howe Mortuary Reception Room, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado 80501.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation in Jesse’s memory.
