Jo Ann Harrington Calkins (Harrington)

Jo Harrington Calkins Lexington - Dr. Jo Ann (Jodi) Harrington Calkins, age 73, of Lexington, South Carolina passed away on April 7, 2015 at Tru Care Community Hospice in Longmont, Colorado. Born in Merryville, Missouri on May 4, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Rex and Freda Harrington and widow of the late Robert Calkins. She was a member of St. David’s Lutheran Church, Lexington, South Carolina. Survivors include her sisters Joyce Harrington of Massachusetts and Ila Binard of Colorado; stepdaughter Cathleen Sanders of Indiana; nieces Kris Binard Carlson of Colorado, Elizabeth Garrison of Hawaii, Regina Flanagan of California and Monica Dapolito of New York; nephew Jean-Pierre Binard of Virginia; daughter in-law Elizabeth Hamel of South Carolina; three step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her step sons Thomas and William Calkins of South Carolina. Jo graduated from Littleton High School and attended the University of Colorado in Boulder where she was a Chi Omega. She earned a Doctorate in Bio Medical Science from the University of South Carolina. Jo was known by her many caring friends and co-workers from Eli Lilly & Company, the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Palmetto Health and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine as having a sincere compassion that drove her to work tirelessly to add value to the world and improve the human condition. Dr. Jo Ann H. Calkins will live on through the biomedical science research and development that she contributed to and will be forever in the hearts of her beloved family and dear friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. David Lutheran Church, West Columbia, on Saturday, June 13 at 1:00 PM. Visitation with family from Noon to 12:45, same location.
