

John was born on March 10, 1952 in Longmont to Robert Spruiell and Gina Bouwman. He grew up on the family farm near Haystack Mountain and graduated from Longmont High School in 1970.
John worked in the lumber industry for most of his life. He was briefly with Wickes Lumber and spent the largest part of his career with Alpine Lumber, retiring in 2009.
John married Judy Rademacher on September 9, 1972 in Longmont. They later divorced. He married Melinda Kaump on January 13, 2001 in Longmont.
A true sports fan, he closely followed Denver professional teams and more importantly his children and grandchildren’s athletic involvements. He enjoyed playing golf at many local courses and was an avid history buff, especially war aviation. He was an enthusiastic hunter for many years and a member of the Boulder Valley Gun Club.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife Melinda Spruiell; his brother Bob Spruiell; and a son in law Bryan Gross.
Surviving are his children Jonna (Tod) Janet of Seattle, Washington; Michael (Jamie) Spruiell of Concord, California; Amy Gross of Commerce City, Colorado; Erik (Kate) Spruiell of Ft. Collins; his step-children Melissa (Cam) Johnson of Longmont and Vanessa (Scott) Riesselman of Frederick; 13 grandchildren Jameson and Lucy Janet, Cavin, Ellis, Wesley and Hunter Spruiell, James Bostic, Hunter and Max Johnson, Ryan and Mason Riesselman, and Jarek and Aleyna Sorensen; and trusted companion Tobey.
A cremation has been entrusted to the Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 12 at the Howe Mortuary Chapel.
