Joyce Marie Mordhorst

31 mars 1936 – 9 août 2024
Avis de décès de Joyce Marie Mordhorst
AUX SOINS DE

Howe Mortuary & Crematory

Joyce Marie Mordhorst, 88, of Longmont, entered into rest on August 9, 2024.  She was born March 31, 1936, in Bellaire, MI, to Alta Marie (Bragg) and Carl John Knutson.  She was raised in Bellaire, MI, and Rapid City, SD, and attended Rapid City High School. She met her husband of 71 years, Norman Dale Mordhorst, in Rapid City, SD and they were married May 4, 1953 in Sturgis, SD.

Joyce and her husband moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 1964 to assist in building the married student housing at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She and Dale fell in love with the Boulder/Longmont area and remained. All four of their children were educated at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Joyce was a devoted wife and mother to her four children, a role she cherished. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels of Boulder County. Later in life, she found joy in working for a famous jeweler for the Denver Broncos. She was thrilled to have met John Elway several times. She and Dale built many spec homes in the Longmont Stoney Ridge neighborhood and she took great pride in designing the interiors.

Joyce had an immense love for her and Dale’s three Chihuahuas; they were more than pets; they were part of the family. They enjoyed their retirement traveling in their RV to Branson, MO, South Padre Island, TX and to visit their son in Tulsa, OK. Joyce also enjoyed flea markets, collecting records, Elvis Presley memorabilia and will be remembered for having the world’s largest spreader collection (which will be donated to the official Boston Warehouse Spreader Company).

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Junior, Bill, and Donald (Knutson), her sister’s Nona and Mary and her son Danny Dale Mordhorst. She is survived by her husband, Norman Dale Mordhorst “Dale,” and her daughters Darcy Mordhorst, Devra Ferguson, Deana Kearns and 8 grandchildren.

Private services will be held.

Memorial contributions in Joyce’s memory are requested to the Longmont Humane Society.
