

June P. (McKeown) Greiner passed away peacefully on January 19, 2019, at Balfour Senior Living in Louisville. She was 97 years old. June was born February 16, 1921, in Elkhart, Indiana, to Lawrence and Dorothy Poorbaugh. June grew up with three younger siblings in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. She married her high school sweetheart, James McKeown. They raised five children together and in 1965 moved the family to Boulder for Father Jim to be the Rector at St. John's Episcopal Church. They divorced in 1972. June went back to college at age 54 and got her B.A. She started a counseling career which she maintained into her late seventies.In 1976, June married Jack Greiner. They built a home on 35 acres near Niwot with a hanger for their antique biplanes. They had their own airstrip named Antique Airfield on the property. June learned to fly and was proud of her first solo flight. She spent almost forty wonderful years with Jack, even at times barnstorming across the country together.June was a devoted member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Her faith and her children were the most important things in her life. Anyone that knew June could testify to her warmth and compassion for people.June is preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her parents, her three younger siblings, and her son-in-law, Mike Horne.June is survived by her children, Carole Horne of Boston; Lynda (Hank) Thompson of Birmingham; Jennifer McKeown (Alice Defler) of Boulder; Larry McKeown (Paula Bright) of Boulder; and Kate McKeown (Michael Bills) of Boulder; eight grandchildren, Gia Verras, Avery Bills, Madeline McKeown, Greer McKeown, Cassie McKeown, Sean McKeown, Ashley Thoss, and Rebecca Patterson, as well as nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Judie Blumenhein, and step grandchildren, Elizabeth Lane and Layla Watkins.A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday March 16, 2019 in the chapel at St. John's Episcopal Church in Boulder at 14th and Pine.
