
Kathryn Grace Wallace Kay Jones of Longmont, formerly of Castle Rock, passed away January 22, 2011. She was 88. Mrs. Jones was born February 1, 1922 in Rock Spring, Georgia, to Nannie Irene Williams Wallace and Daniel Calvin Wallace. Kathryn graduated from LaFayette High School in GA. She worked in a hosiery mill while attending business college in Chattanooga, TN. At age 19, she applied for a position in the FBI's Identification Division and was appointed to a position in Washington, DC as a secretary. While working in Washington she attended Strayers Business College and George Washington University. She later worked in the FBI field office in Savannah, GA and in New York City. In 1946 Kathryn transferred to the Washington DC field office as a secretary-stenographer where she met her husband-to-be, Chester A. Jones, who was employed as a Special Agent of the FBI. They married May 1, 1948. They moved to Kansas City where their three daughters were born and later to the Denver area where Kathryn worked in various U.S. Government agencies. Kathryn enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and camping. The Joneses moved to Castle Rock in 1978 and enjoyed retirement in the country and winters in Arizona. She was a Master Gardener and won many blue ribbons at the Douglas County Fair. She belonged to St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Littleton. Chester and Kathryn moved to Longmont in 2006 to be closer to their daughters. Chester passed away on May 5, 2007. Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Bath and her husband Wayne of Niwot, Leslie Winship Dreyer and her husband Donald of Longmont, Christina Abernathy and her husband Blane of Colorado Springs, grandchildren Brooke James and her husband Adam, Erin Quigley, Krystal Erazo and her husband Edison, John Winship, Lukas Abernathy, Landon Abernathy, and great grandchildren, Alea James, Kamila and Josep Erazo. Kay was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Daniel Calvin Wallace, sister, Betty Jo Wallace Coulter, and her beloved husband, Chester. Burial service will take place at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 6 at 2:00 pm at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church, 6653 W. Chatfield Ave. in Littleton. Memorial contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel 326 Terry Street, Longmont, CO 80501. Kay's family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Sterling House and Family Hospice and to Donna Roberts for their loving care for Mom and her family.
