

LaVerna was born February 26, 1933. The will be a Celebration of Life at the First Evangelical Lutheran
Church on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 10:30am, with a reception to follow immediately after the service. LaVerna June Nelson, passed away November 2, 2021, in Longmont, Colorado. She was born on February 26, 1933, in Hoisington, Kansas, to Leo Dumler and Alma Michaelis. LaVerna lived in Kansas until the age of 7. She graduated from Longmont High School in 1950. LaVerna met Harold Nelson at the age of 13. They dated throughout high school and were married at the age of 19 in 1952. LaVerna worked at First Evangelical Lutheran Church as a Secretary. She worked many jobs in her lifetime, including carhopping at her uncles drive in when she was young. LaVerna was a bookkeeper, grocery clerk, and also waitressing and worked at the Great Western Sugar Co. After retirement, she worked in the office at Blakes Arena. Her favorite job was being a housewife, a mother, a grandmother, and eventually a great grandma. LaVerna started out a city girl, but gave it up to become the hardworking farm wife we all knew and loved. LaVerna has been a member of the First Lutheran, since approximately 1948. She loved the 4-H 'world' and was active in all aspects of it. Laverna loved music and played the piano and saxophone. She had many hobbies throughout her lifetime, including crocheting, sewing, baking & cooking. LaVerna loved going to Estes Park and was an avid gardener. LaVerna is survived by her husband Harold Edward Nelson, a son Blake Nelson (Tammy), 2 daughters, Laurel Nelson, and Sally Harvey (Leonard). LaVerna is survived 6 grandchildren, Robert Calkins, Harold Calkins (Jody), Ty Calkins (Mala), Clay Calkins, Nelson Montierth(Christine), Noni Shull (Brett). She is survived by 11 great grandchildren, Camden Calkins, Trevor Calkins, Samantha Calkins, Daven Calkins, Tyler Calkins, Owen Montierth, Eddie Shull, Ani Shull, Hank Shull, Mayzie Shull. She is also survived by her sister-in- Law, Barbara Nelson Price(Rick), and numerous nieces, nephews, and Cousins. She also is survived by her Aunt Alice in Colorado Springs, CO. LaVerna was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Alma Dumler. There will be a viewing for LaVerna starting at 9:30am till 10:30am at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Celebration of Life beginning at 10:30am at First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Memorial Contributions are to be made to the Longmont Humane Society. Toys that are brought to the service (new and unwrapped) will be donated to 'Toys for Tots'.
