Lois Irene (Hitchcock) Getman, 93, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021 in the TRU Hospice Care Center in Longmont, CO after a lengthy battle with dementia. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, 11:00 am at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry Street, Longmont, Colorado. Masks will be required
Lois was born February 22, 1928 in Boulder, Colorado to the Walter and Cora (Clark) Hitchcock. She attended school in Boulder and graduated from Boulder High School in 1945.
On June 25, 1948 she married her childhood sweetheart, Don Getman. They celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary this year. They had two children, a daughter Sharon, and a son Mike.
She worked throughout her life, except when she stayed home to raise her kids until they began school. She could do anything and enjoyed various types of employment. She worked for J.C. Penney and Company, Mountain Bell Telephone Company, sold Avon products, served as secretary at the First Nazarene Church in Boulder, cared and cooked for children at the First Nazarene Child Development Center, and lastly owned and operated the Craft Stove Store in Longmont.
Lois loved to travel. Her first major family trip was to Montreal, Quebec for the Expo 67 world fair. Her favorite trips were cruises where she traveled the U.S. extensively and took one international tour through Germany, Italy, France, Ireland, Scotland, and Spain. She visited the Berlin Wall several months prior to its demolition. She vacationed in Alaska eight times, mainly to visit her son Mike who lived on Kodiak Island. Lois cruised the Inland Passage and from Kodiak to Dutch Harber and traveled every major highway in the state.
Christ was first in her Life. She was raised in the First Nazarene Church in Boulder and later attended Harvest Baptist and LifeBridge Christian churches. Which ever church she attended, she’d volunteer to help wherever needed with her favorite activities involving children, missions, and hospitality.
Lois was a lifelong resident of Boulder County. She loved her flower and vegetable gardens. Baking and decorating cakes and cookies was her specialty. Her love of animals resulted in her having many dogs and cats, and even an alligator. But her favorite hobby was shopping.
Lois was raised in the First Nazarene church in Boulder and attended until 1980 where she served as superintendent of the junior Sunday school department and missionary chapter leader for high school and college young adults. She attended and was a member of Harvest Baptist from 1980-1994. In 1994, she began attending First Christian church in Longmont which was renamed to LifeBridge Christian Church. There she served as greeter on Sunday mornings, was on the Hospitality committee which she enjoyed for several years, and later as part of the planning committee for Senior Luncheons and helped in setting up and tearing down each month and then attended Lifebridge Christian Church until her death.
She was preceded in death by her Father (1960), Mother (1994), and Brother Cleo Baine (1928) and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by husband Don of Longmont, CO, daughter Sharon of Longmont, CO, and son Mike of Lewistown, MT.
