Margaret Janet DeWitt, 81, of Longmont died on May 25, 2011 at Longmont United Hospital. Margaret was born August 14, 1929 in Versailles, Illinois, to Mark and Mamie (Walker) Baker. On January 25, 1948, she married Robert Andrew DeWitt, also of Versailles. As a young girl and woman, she loved singing with local community groups and playing the piano. Later, she became an avid fisherman, and enjoyed quilting and reading. An excellent cook, she was known for her pies, particularly apple. But her favorite dessert was lemon ice cream. Above all, she loved traveling around the country in her motor home with her husband. She particularly enjoyed trips to the Pacific Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands. She was a long time member of the Church of Christ. Falling in love with the mountains, Margaret moved to Colorado in 1969 with her family, living first in Longmont, then Lyons, and Estes Park, eventually returning to Longmont. She enjoyed hiking during the fall to see the changes of the colors. One of her favorite mountain spots was the Forest Canyon Overlook on Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. Margaret and her husband built two houses and remodeled eight others during their marriage. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one daughter, Merry Dunbar; and grandson, Abram. Margaret is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert DeWitt; her brother, Roy and wife Ruby; son, David and wife Cindy, son Jeff and wife Rebecca; daughter, Jeanette and husband Jerry; daughter Renee and husband Bill; six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
