
Marie was born in Czechoslovakia (now part of Poland) in 1923. She lived with her father (mother, deceased) until the Nazis took him as a captive in WWII. As a young girl, Marie was sent by the Nazis to Austria to a work farm for three years. She was later sent to a concentration camp where she suffered additional hardship and abuse for two more years.
After the war, she married an American soldier and moved to Chicago. Shortly thereafter, he was redeployed and never returned home. Marie then married a man she had met at her work, Ivan Johnson, a widower with three sons. Marie and Ivan were married for nearly 50 years until his death in 2001.
Marie is survived by her sons, Ken Johnson (Colleen) of Firestone, CO; Bob Johnson (Sandy) of Berthoud, CO. Her son David Johnson and Wife Carrie predeceased her. She is also survived by five grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
In lieu of a funeral service, a celebration of life will be held at the home of Bob and Sandy Johnson on Sunday, March 6, 2022 from 2-4 pm. Donations in her memory can be made to Apple Leaf Assisted Living, 1328 N 1st St, Berthoud, CO 80513.
