She was Born February 3, 1935 to Allen and Katherine Hein Southard in Big Springs, Nebraska.
She attended school in Big Springs, Nebraska and loved school, friends, time with nieces and nephews, and especially reading. She participated in cheerleading and track (she could out run the boys). She also worked waitressing.
In her early teens the family moved to a farm south of Big Springs where she loved watching and waiting for irrigation water to run down each row of corn. Irrigation water often brought rattlesnakes with it - which she would kill with her shovel.
After graduation, she moved to Corpus Christi, TX where she married her high school boyfriend, Marvin Remington, on May 31, 1952.
In Corpus Christi she found employment at the JCPENNEY store. After Marvin was discharged from the Navy, they moved back to Nebraska and ended up in Ogallala where Marietta worked at Good All, soldering and later in payroll.
Setting their sights on Colorful Colorado, they moved to Boulder in 1959 where she found work in the Bookstore at the University of Colorado, and later the JCPENNEY Store. They adopted Michelle December 21, 1963, and Michael was born February 12, 1965.
Marietta loved her new job of being a full time mother. In 1968, the family moved to 10 acre ranch west of Longmont that she helped make into the 4M Ranch. She enjoyed riding horses as well as planting and working in her large garden growing and canning food for her family.
Marietta loved doing arts and crafts and getting her kids involved with being creative and even messy. She loved carving, making animals out of rocks and painting them, crafting, refinishing old furniture, holiday and event decorating.
Marietta was a member of Calvary Church from 1972 until her death in 2024. She was active in and a coordinator for Ladies friendship Bible study groups, Connie Cady Circle, and taught Sunday school and worked in Vacation Bible School. She was a room mother for many years. Once her kids got involved in 4H, so did she and was a 4H club co-leader for years and helped with Boulder County Fairs.
Marietta always had a smile for everyone, a ton of patience when dealing with difficult situations, and a willingness to search for solutions.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Marvin Remington, her parents Allen and Katherine Southerd, her siblings, Dewayne Southard, Marjorie Robinson, Vonnae Southard, and Dixie Southard.
She is survived by her children, Michelle Ballard (Gary), Michael Remington (Amy).
