Marilyn Louise Schilling, age 83, of Longmont, Colorado passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. Marilyn was born March 15, 1938 in Belleville, Kansas, to Frank Milner and Neva (Boman) Milner. She attended several different schools in the area, due to the occasional family move, but was a graduate of Belleville High School.
Marilyn married Ronald Schilling May 15, 1959 in Fairbury, Nebraska, shortly thereafter the couple moved to North Dakota from Kansas and began their early family life together. During this time Marilyn’s primary focus was raising her children and providing child care for other families, until her children were at school attendance age, when she returned to work.
Some of her work history included being a work governess in Wichita, Kansas, a waitress in Belleville, Kansas, a cook at the Jamestown Collage in North Dakota, medical records at the State Hospital in North Dakota. After this time Marilyn and her family moved to the Longmont & Dacono area in 1974, where she continued her career, transitioning to the Boulder Medical Center in medical records and sometime later on to Table Mesa Family Medicine as an office & clinic manager in Boulder, Colorado. When Table Mesa Family Medicine merged into Boulder Community Hospital, Marilyn led her team at 5 separate clinics as a clinic manager. In 1996 a severe stroke forced her to step back from her management role, finding a solace in a new role within the billing department until she reached retirement age.
Marilyn moved back to Kansas for retirement, but could never really retire completely, finding work in a computer store in Belleville, Kansas and later for local attorney Frank Shorny until his ultimate retirement. It truly wasn’t until Frank retired that she decided to do the same, Marilyn embodied the saying “Success operates in active moments and not in idleness”. Her final move came in early February of this year, returning to Colorado from Kansas, to live with her son, Phil, and to receive medical treatment.
Some of Marilyn’s passions and hobbies included doing volunteer work for the Tri-Area Ambulance, craft making, attending craft fairs, crocheting, Christmas decorating, her sports teams…Go Broncos & K State! What she loved more than all of these combined was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, family was the center of her universe.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Schilling; parents, Frank Milner & Neva (Boman) Milner; brothers, Richard Milner, Dean Milner and Emil Milner.
She is survived by her son, Philip Schilling (Longmont, CO); daughter, Juli Green (Dacono, CO). Grandchildren, Justin Schilling (Cheyenne, WY), Mat Gutierrez (Firestone, CO), Joshua Schilling (Johnstown, CO), Jami Gutierrez (Northglenn, CO), and Riley Schilling (Longmont, CO). 15 great-grandchildren. Sister-in-law, Gloria Milner; nephew, Brian Milner; cousin, Carla Siebert (Longmont, CO); as well as many other cousins, extended family and friends in both Colorado & Kansas.
