Mario Sanchez Sr.

Mario was born to David and Teresa Sanchez, in San Antonio, Cuba, in 1942. He grew up on the family farm named El Pensamiento, the youngest of seven siblings. He studied at La Salle Catholic school, and was a member of the chorus of La Milagrosa Church, both in the city of Guantanamo. There he met Maria Dolores De La Fuente who he married in 1964, and with whom he had two children. In the 1970s, most of his siblings migrated out of Cuba individually to different parts of the world. With assistance from several of them, Mario and family immigrated to Spain in 1972, then to the US in 1974, where they settled in Elizabeth, NJ. He worked there for decades, notably in metal refinery and at Magruder Color. After retirement he moved to Longmont, CO, where he participated in the Longmont Senior Center and its Canto de Mi Tierra chorus. His lifetime passion was a deep devotion to family and close friends. He travelled often to visit and vacation with family, most commonly New York, Florida, California, Arizona, Texas, Mexico and Dominican Republic.

Mario is predeceased by his parents, by most of his siblings, and by his beloved daughter, Maria Esther Sanchez, who was born with a developmental disability. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maria Dolores Sanchez; by his son and his daughter-in-law, Mario and Anja Sanchez, also of Longmont; by his sole surviving brother, Rolando Sanchez, in Spain; and by dozens of cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A visitation for Mario will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Howe Mortuary located at 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado. Rosary prayers will commence at 5:00 p.m. On Friday, July 11th a Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, located at 329 Collyer Street, Longmont, Colorado. The mass will be livestreamed https://www.youtube.com/live/J3sEnIOaeE0 . A reception will follow the mass at Howe Mortuary & Crematory.

On Friday, July 18, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Mario Sr. will be laid to rest alongside his daughter Maria at Mountain View Cemetery, Longmont, Colorado.

Mario Sanchez Sr., de Longmont, falleció pacíficamente el Viernes 27 de Junio de 2025, tras varios años de luchar contra la enfermedad de Alzheimer. Tenía 83 años.

Mario nació en 1942 en San Antonio, Cuba, hijo de David y Teresa Sanchez. Creció en la finca familiar llamada El Pensamiento, siendo el menor de siete hermanos. Estudió en la escuela Católica La Salle y fue miembro del coro de la Iglesia La Milagrosa, ambos en la ciudad de Guantánamo. Allí conoció a María Dolores De La Fuente, con quien se casó en 1964 y tuvo dos hijos. En la década de 1970, la mayoría de sus hermanos emigraron individualmente desde Cuba hacia diferentes partes del mundo. Con la ayuda de varios de ellos, Mario y su familia emigraron a España en 1972, y luego a Estados Unidos en 1974, donde se establecieron en Elizabeth, Nueva Jersey. Allí trabajó durante décadas, especialmente en una refinería de metales y en Magruder Color. Tras jubilarse, se mudó a Longmont, Colorado, donde participó activamente en el Centro de Personas Mayores de Longmont y en su coro Canto de Mi Tierra. Su gran pasión en la vida fue una profunda devoción a su familia y amigos cercanos. Viajaba con frecuencia para visitar y vacacionar con sus seres queridos, principalmente en Nueva York, Florida, California, Arizona, Texas, México y República Dominicana.

Le antecedieron sus padres, la mayoría de sus hermanos y su amada hija, María Esther Sanchez, quien nació con una discapacidad. Le sobreviven su querida esposa durante 60 años, María Dolores Sanchez; su hijo y nuera, Mario y Anja Sanchez, de Longmont; su único hermano sobreviviente, Rolando Sanchez, en España; y docenas de primos, sobrinas, sobrinos, sobrinas-nietas y sobrinos-nietos.

La Velación se llevará acabo el dia Jueves, 10 de Julio de 2025, de 3:00 p.m. a 7:00 p.m., en la funeraria Howe Mortuary, ubicada en 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado. El rosario comenzará a las 5:00 p.m. La Misa De Cuerpo Presente se llevara acabo el dia Viernes, 11 de Julio a las 2:00 p.m. en la Iglesia Católica San Juan el Bautista, ubicada en 329 Collyer Street, Longmont, Colorado. La misa estará disponible en linea https://www.youtube.com/live/J3sEnIOaeE0 Después de la misa, se realizará una recepción en la funeraria Howe Mortuary & Crematory.

El dia Viernes, 18 de Julio de 2025, a la 1:00 p.m. Mario Sr. será colocado en su lugar de descanso junto a su hija Maria en Mountain View Cemetery, Longmont, Colorado.
