She was born on October 4, 1937, in Las Animas, Colorado, to her parents, Mary (Fletcher) Abel and Paul Alfred Abel. Mary graduated from high school in Las Animas and, shortly after, answered the call to serve her country by enlisting in the United States Army. She completed basic training in San Antonio, Texas, and served at Fort Hood. During her military service, she completed specialized training as an X-ray Technician, a skill that would guide her professional path for many years.
Following her honorable service, Mary continued her education at a community college and built a career in the medical field as a laboratory technician. Throughout her life, she lived in various parts of Colorado and spent some time in Arizona, embracing each chapter with resilience and independence.
Right after high school, she married Edward A. Trainum. Although their marriage later dissolved, they were blessed with three sons who remained the pride and joy of her life. In the early 2000s, she married Ivan Weber. Together they made their home in Colorado and shared many meaningful years until Ivan’s passing three years ago. Following his death, Mary moved to Kerrville, Texas, to be closer to her sons.
Mary had a servant’s heart and generously volunteered with SARS teams. In her free time, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures—working puzzles, sewing, camping, and tending to her garden. She was a woman of quiet strength, dedication, and deep love for her family.
She is survived by her sons, Martin Paul Trainum (Cynthia), Edward M. Trainum, and Harold Bruce Trainum (Sandy); step-children, Darlene Nickle, Sharon Jingst (Chuck), and Ron Weber (Kathleen); grandchildren, Martrisha Trainum and Andrew E. Trainum; step-grandchildren, Justin Clark and Christopher Clark; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Trainum and Emma Trainum; step-great-grandchildren, Maci Clark, Ella Clark, J.J. Clark, and Jaxen Clark.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Margaret Abel and Jessie Fred Abel.
Mary will be remembered for her service to her country, her commitment to helping others, and the steady love she gave to her family throughout her long and meaningful life.
A graveside committal service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, located at 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, Colorado.
