

Melvin LaDean Jones, 85, of Longmont, died November 8, 2015 at his home. He was born August 27, 1930 in Berthoud, Colorado to Roy Medford Jones and Arlene (Fletcher) Jones. Following his high school graduation he went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force as a medic during the Korean War. On November 11, 1951 he married Virginia Mae Weitzel in Berthoud, CO, the high school sweethearts were happily married for 64 years.
After his military service, he attended University of Colorado Boulder and graduated top of his class with a degree in Business.
Melvin worked as a purchasing agent for the Boulder Valley School District and after retirement he also worked at the Longmont Clinic for 13 years.
Melvin and Virginia are long term members of Messiah Lutheran Church. They shared their faith with their family, not only by church attendance, but most importantly by example with the love and care he provided his family. Melvin enjoyed travel, home projects, camping and fishing. He and Virginia loved spending time with friends and family. He found great delight in playing with his little great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Longmont, his son, Wesley Dean Jones, of Longmont and his daughter and son in law, Janet and Marty Sandersen, of Mead. He is further survived by 5 grandchildren Matthew Sandersen, Rex and Stephanie (Sandersen) King, Heather and Andrea Jones. 4 great grandchildren Richard, Mackenzie and Maddie Jones, and Hunter King, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents and his brothers Donald and Howard Jones.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Howe Mortuary in Longmont. Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Berthoud, CO followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:30 am at Messiah Lutheran Church in Longmont.
