

Michael David Hattel, a lifelong resident of the Firestone/Frederick area, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026 at the age of 85, just a few days before his birthday. He was born on April 11, 1940, to Alex Hattel and Lillie Ciocchetti Hattel.
On July 16, 1960, Michael married the love of his life, Liberta DiSalle, and together they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his loving wife and his parents.
He was an accomplished athlete in High School, excelling in Football, Basketball and Baseball. Michael was a proud member of the 1956 Frederick High School State Basketball Championship team. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing with his family.
Michael worked for 35 years at the Rocky Flats Nuclear Plant. After retirement from Rocky Flats, he spent more than 20 years as a school bus driver for the St. Vrain Valley School District. He was also a skilled mechanic. He served the community on the Town Board of Frederick, also served as Police Commissioner for the Town of Frederick, and was instrumental in the Frederick Arts Committee as well as the Miner’s Memorial Wall and Miners Day celebrations.
Michael is survived by his three sons Michael (Christy) Hattel, Steven Hattel, and William (Ken Hopping) Hattel, and his 5 grandchildren Michael Hattel, James (Lauren) Hattel, Ryan (Gabby) Hattel, Alexis (Jordan) Martinez, Pete Hattel, and his great-grandchildren, Ivy Hattel, Oliver Martinez, and Sophia Hattel. Also surviving are his brother-in-law Daniel DiSalle (Barbara) and family.

Graveside Committal: Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. (Michael’s birthday) Longmont Mountain View Cemetery, 620 11th Ave, Longmont, CO 80501
Services are entrusted to Howe Mortuary & Crematory of Longmont Colorado.
All donations received will be contributed to the Frederick Arts Commission.
