

Michael B. McDonough, 69, of Longmont, CO passed away July 31, 2015 at Longmont United Hospital after a long battle with heart disease. He was born October 28, 1945 in Kansas City, MO to Thomas and Ruth (Heydon) McDonough.Mike grew up in Cleveland Heights, OH and graduated from St. Peter Chanel High School in 1963. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Denver in 1973 and his masters from the University of Illinois in1976.As a young adult, Mike was a musician/guitar player. He knew and played with J Walsh and members of the original James Gang band.He served with the United States Air Force from 1967-1970, with a tour of duty in Viet Nam. He was honorably discharged in 1970.Mike married Judy M. Huber on February 4, 1970 in Peoria, AZ. They moved to Longmont in 1976. He was the Assistant City Planner and later the Director of Planning for the City of Longmont. After leaving the City staff Mike started Land Consultants, working as an independent consultant. During the 1990's he was the Executive Director for the Longmont Down Town Development Authority. During this time Mike also served as the Planning Director for the towns of Mead and Johnstown. His career included working for Prudential Real Estate as an agent, and then returning to his company name, Land Consultants as a real estate broker.Mike was a member of United Church of Christ Longmont, where he had served as church moderator. He was a member and past president of the Twin Peaks Rotary Club. Mike was one of the first members of the Saint Vrain Valley Schools Long Range Planning Committee, was a former board member of Attention Home and participated as a mentor at Erie Elementary School. He was an avid fly fisherman and member of Trout Unlimited. Mike loved to sail and enjoyed his many days on Union Reservoir. Another one of Mike's great loves was spending quality time with his grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Terri Kocab.Mike is survived by his wife Judy, son Ryan McDonough (Amy) of Timnath, CO, daughter Tanya King (Wes) of Castle Pines, CO, grandchildren Reilly and Kieran McDonough, Sydney and Keegan King and sister Pat Brown.A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the United Church of Christ (First Congregational Church) at 1500 9th Avenue.
