Michael Duane Nelson

Mike was born on November 26, 1959 in Fruita, CO. He grew up on a farm east of Longmont with his dad and mom, Duane and Cornelia (Lafferty) Nelson, and brothers and sisters. He attended Mead Elementary and JR High School where he wrestled, played football and was known as “Baby Nelson”. He graduated from Longmont High School in 1979. While attending Longmont High School he also completed a welding course at CDC.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Duane and Cornelia and his sister Michele. He is survived by his brothers Marvin (Lisa) Nelson, Martin (Dyna) Nelson and Matt (Kelli) Nelson; his sisters Margie (Delbert) Beard and Monica (Joel) Hazy; his goddaughter Amber Meaney, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike had several occupations over the years, including working on several farms, fry cook, maintenance man, dairy man, heavy equipment operator, and security, but the majority of his employment was in retail and he was proud of the various positions he held. He was a Christian and a life-long member of the Rinn United Methodist Church. In his free time Mike enjoyed building RC cars and trucks, shooting his guns, driving through the mountains, listening to music, watching movies; and he loved watching the Denver Broncos!

Mike will be remembered as the uncle that his nieces and nephews loved to rough-house with. He treasured the time spent with his family and friends and was always willing to help anyone in need. His generous heart, stubborn determination, and his gentle soul will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

A memorial service for Mike will be held at 11:00am on Saturday November 23, 2024 at Rinn United Methodist Church 3783 Bella Rosa Parkway Frederick, CO 80504.
