Born to Lloyd and Vanice Clark in Burkburnett, TX, she spent the first few years of her life between Texas, Washington, and California while her father served in the Army. The family moved to Boulder, CO in 1946. She graduated from Boulder High School in 1962 and attended the University of Colorado, where she met her first husband, Rick Dickerson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her youngest daughter, Sara Jane Dickerson. She is survived by a large family, including her sister Karen Van-Engelenburg (Steve), children Jana Wegelin (Seth Getlin) and Darren Dickerson (Susan), Grandchildren Phillip Wegelin, Christopher Wegelin, Anthony Ramirez (Elisia) and Alexandrea Stewart (Jamie), 4 Great-Grandchildren and many close friends. Additionally, she remained good friends with Rick and his wife of 43 years and considered his other children (Juniper, Rhiannon, Signe and Geoff) her bonus kids.
Her family and friends knew her as “Mike”. Her children and their friends will remember her as the “cool” mom – one to let them have a safe place to be kids with the firmness to let them know that enough was enough and keep them from getting into trouble (mostly). Known for her strength, kindness, and resolve, as well as her love for creating beautiful works of art, Mike will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched and remembered for the joy she brought to each one of them.
She enjoyed gardening and participating in a local gardening club with her closest friends, but her true passion and talent was in creating beautiful works of art. Her artistic talent emerged at a young age. She started drawing and sculpting in grade school. She worked as a typesetter and mark-up artist for AB Herschfeld Press and then Johnson Publishing until she retired. Her artistic talents were used in everything from books, magazines and catalogues to album and book covers and wedding invitations.
A lifelong painter, her mediums included oils, acrylics, pastels, ink, charcoal, and watercolors. She won several awards at local art shows and displayed her paintings in multiple galleries. She painted both whimsical and very realistic landscapes, beautiful portraits and still life. Her family and friends will always have a piece of her in her art. One of her favorite places on earth was the French Island of Corsica, which she visited several times. She told her daughter recently that she wished she was well enough to go back one more time.
The family will host a Celebration of her Life and Art this summer (date to be determined) in Longmont. Gifts in her memory would be welcome – Friends of the Longmont Museum would be appreciated as it is a non-profit which encourages art in the community.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.howemortuary.com with her loving family.
