Monty Godec was a beloved son of Denver and a man of many talents and kindnesses. A natural athlete, he made his mark early on the fields and courts of Hamilton Junior and East High Schools, where he played football and starred on the tennis team that made it to State. As an adult, he transferred his grace and power on the court to a mastery and lifelong love of golf. A formidable scratch player, he claimed to never once be frustrated while playing--a reflection of his uncommon serenity and joy in the game.
Monty's distinction extended beyond athletics. He played trumpet in the East High School Jazz Band, performing at venues across the city. An avid outdoorsman, he loved the mountains, where he hiked, paddleboarded, and found peace. He eventually worked, caring for and training championship hunting dogs. His gentle, caring nature and love of animals made his work hugely gratifying, both to himself and the many labradors who followed him around in a starry-eyed trance.
From early in life, Monty followed his passion into the restaurant industry—a journey that eventually culminated in a degree from culinary school. Whether in the kitchen or on the floor, Monty earned the affection and admiration of coworkers and customers alike. His generosity, work ethic, and warmth left a lasting impression, as demonstrated by the many glowing personal thank you notes he received while he worked as a chef at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Loveland.
Monty had a sly sense of humor allied to a warm heart and a gentle spirit. He passed through the storms of life that blow through every existence and is now forever teeing off at a sunny fairway without a single rough in sight. He leaves behind him the deep love he gave to his family and friends--on the green, in the kitchen, and in life.
