
Norma Jean (Brown) AmesOctober 4, 1935 “ December 19, 2015Norma Ames, a wonderful mother, grandma and wife, 80, passed away in her home surrounded by family in Longmont on Saturday, December 19, 2015. Even after being diagnosed with ALS, she lived her life with tremendous courage and grace, enjoying each day to the fullest.She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her many wonderful friends. She was a loving, adventurous and compassionate woman. Her passion was to travel, and she had been to more than 27 different countries throughout her life. Norma was a proud member for 45 years of the First United Methodist Church. She volunteered her time for many organizations such as the Public Library, the OUR Center, Meals on Wheels and donated her time and energy on several Mission trips. She enjoyed walking, hiking with friends and family, camping, fishing, gardening, reading and learning about other cultures. Norma was born in Jerico Springs, Missouri to John and Alice (Mitchell) Brown, moving to Woonsocket, South Dakota when she was 7 years old. She attended Woonsocket High School and was valedictorian of her class in 1953. Norma earned her Nursing Degree from Methodist School of Nursing in 1956 and on October 2nd married Ken Ames in C ur D'Alene, Idaho. After Ken completed his service in the Air Force in Washington, they lived in Miller, SD, moving to Sheridan, WY in 1967 and then to Longmont in 1969. She loved Colorado! Norma was a Registered Nurse at Longmont United Hospital for the last 28 of her 45 years of nursing. Her parents and husband of 56 years, Ken Ames, preceded her in death. She is survived by her children Charles (Paula) Ames, Linda Ames, Connie (Doug) Richardson and John (Gay) Ames; her grandchildren Alicia Lee, Andrea Fogle, Amanda Fetzer, Brianna Tanner, and Ian Ames; her eleven great-grandchildren Jayson, Vaughn, Ledger, Arthur, April, Corra, Jax, Cayde, Teague, Jett, and Kaii; and her sister Audrey (Lloyd) Kempf and sister-in-laws Alice Baruth, Sally Schatz, and Pete Ames and a brother-in-law Bud Ames.A Memorial will be held at 10:30am on Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Heart of Longmont (formerly the First United Methodist Church). Contributions can be made in her honor to Heart of Longmont.
