

Norma Dibble Ewalt, 90, passed away September 29 at Applewood Living Center.A Celebration of Life will be held at The Cheese Importers on Friday, Oct 17th at 2:00 pm. Norma was born in Denver, August 18, 1924 to Norman and Anna Dibble. She graduated at the top of her class at Ottumwa High School, Ottumwa, IA and attended Grinnell College on a Merit Scholarship. She left Grinnell during WWII to work in Oak Ridge, TN for the Manhattan Project and was awarded by the US Government for her work. Norma married the love of her life, Jerre Ewalt on September 4, 1948. They lived in Ottumwa, IA, where their son Todd was born. Jerre's job took them to Jackson, MI, where daughter Jill was born. Their life in Jackson was filled with their new family, dance clubs, charity work and country club events. Norma was active in the King's Daughters, Daughters of the American Revolution and Junior League. In 1959, Jerre's new job relocated the family to Cleveland, OH. It was there that daughter Beth was born. Upon settling in Rocky River, OH, Norma pursued her many passions: motherhood, gourmet cooking, antique collecting and importing Mexican Folk Art. Jerre's untimely death in 1972 prompted her to return to her birthplace, Colorado, where her adult children lived. In Boulder she became locally involved including a term as President of Boulder's Planned Parenthood. She contributed to the establishment of Boulder's Free University and became a lifelong friend of Steve Elliott. Norma's work life followed her passions. In the 1980's she authored the unique cookbook Decadent Dinner's and Lascivious Lunches and traveled to promote it through TV interviews, radio, and culinary expo's. With son Todd, she developed her business Beyond Old Books, collecting and restoring antique and collectible books and selling them on eBay. She moved to Longmont in 1980 and worked as manager of Grandma's Closet. Throughout her business and social life she made cherished friends, while always being there for her children. In addition to her amazing culinary talent, Norma was an artist, knitter and creative crafterNorma will always be remembered and loved for her amazing artistic and culinary talents, sense of humor, strength, compassion and devotion to her family. Norma was preceded in death by her parents and husband Jerre. She is survived by brother Edwin Dibble of Clayton, GA, son Todd Ewalt of Littleton, daughters Jill Cutler of Longmont and Beth Ewalt-Bartel of Longmont, grandsons, Alex and Austin, granddaughter Annabel and two great-grandsons.
