Norma Belle (Cropp) Poffenroth passed away September 17, 2014 in Lafayette, Colorado. Norma was one of four siblings, born December 8, 1925 at the family ranch in the country near Dickens, NE. Norma graduated with a class of twelve from Wallace High in 1944. After high school, she taught school for a year in a one room schoolhouse near Wallace before moving to North Platte NE to work for Montgomery Ward Co. In 1946 at the tender age of 19, she transferred to Longmont, CO with the company. Norma met Dave Poffenroth, the love of her life, soon after arriving in Longmont at a Jitney dance one Friday night in Roosevelt Park. The rest, as they say, was history. They married in 1949 and spent the next 63 years together. They were always ""NormaandDave"" to all who knew them -- inseparable. After marrying, they moved to Northglenn and both began jobs in Denver. Norma worked for Exxon Corp for the next 25 years.
Upon retirement in 1977, Norma and Dave made their dream to return to the country a reality. They built a home near Hygiene, CO on 9 acres of land, close to a lake, with a breathtaking panoramic view of Longs Peak. There they lived a beautiful life in harmony with nature, with all their beloved animals, out on their small ranch they affectionately called ""The Ponderosa.""
Norma is survived by her sister, Eula Davis and husband Wendell Davis; brother James ""Denny"" Cropp and wife Marcene Cropp; sister-in-law Viola Chavez-Cropp; and many adoring nieces, nephews, and grand-neices and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by her brother Louis Oren Cropp, and parents Charley Oren Cropp and May James Cropp.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2014 at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, Longmont with Pastor Kent Schnegelberger officiating. Services will conclude at the Chapel.
