Opal Lorene Butler

BUTLER, Opal Lorene, 89, of Longmont, died May 9, 2010 at the Peaks Care Center in Longmont.She was born on May 14, 2010 in Freeman, Missouri the daughter of George L. and Ollie M. (France) Thomas. On September 27, 1944 she married Thomas M. Butler in Craig, CO. They moved to Colorado in 1963.Together Opal and Tom ran a number of family restaurants. Included were the Butler Place and Silver Spur Café in Longmont and the Mountaineer Inn in Estes Park.Opal was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Longmont. She also enjoyed her lunch and dinner time spent with many friends especially Grace, Dorothy and Zelma at Aunt Alice's Restaurant.Survivors include her daughter Cynthia (Ray) Schoendaller of Anchorage, AK, 7grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Mark A. (Misty) Schoendaller, children Travis W. Schoendaller and Merissa (David) Miller; Heather S. (James) Andrews, children Taylor, Ryan, Jayson and Maykala; Amy K. DeWitt-Warren (Dennis) children Erika, Matthew and Haden DeWitt, Samantha, Amanda and Dennis Warren; Gretchen R. (Robert) Malone and children Natalie and Andrew; Megan J. (Jonathan) Wohlers and sons Jacob, Caleb and Isaac all from Alaska; Shannon M. Dujanden and son Rathan of Dacono and Scott M. (Stacy) Butler and son Branden of Aurora, CO. She is further survived by her sisters Cara Wilma (Harold) Anderson of Harrisonville, Missouri, E. Marie (August) Scherzer of Kansas City, Missouri and Lillian Thomas of Longmont and a sister-in-law Darlene Butler of Higginsville, MO and many nieces and nephews. . Preceding her is death were her parents, her husband Thomas M.in 1990, her son Richard M. Butler, in 2007; her daughter Joyce Ann Butler, in infancy, 1948, her sister Alice M. Davis, brother Hayward Thomas and a grandson Matthew Schoendaller. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the Howe Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Carol Lillie of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
