

Opal Marie Curley of Longmont, Colorado, died January 15, 2007 at Applewood Living Center. She was 100.Opal was born on November 23, 1906 in Rexford, Kansas to Lewis Jasper and Alta (Galloway) Teel. She grew up in Rexford and graduated from high school where she played on the girls basketball team. She then attended a business school in Kansas City. She married Vaughn W. Curley on October 10, 1929 in Oberlin, Kansas. The family moved to the Longmont area in 1939.Mrs. Curley, along with her husband, owned and operated restaurants in Grand Island, Atwood, and Menlo, Kansas. The couple was then involved in the construction business where they built new homes in several developments in Longmont and Niwot. Her main attention was always to the needs of her family. Opal was involved in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Niwot Grange and was a member of the Niwot United Methodist Church. She enjoyed oil painting and produced many art works.Mrs. Curley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Herbert Teel and two sisters: Crystal Hopson and Mildred Jackson.Surviving are her son, Gaylon and his wife Norma of Lyons, Colorado; her daughter, Beverly Davis and her husband Jim of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren: Sherry, Susan, Michael and Gregory; six great grandchildren and five great ? great grandchildren.Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19 at Howe Mortuary from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20 at 1:00 p.m. in the Howe Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Merlene Barner of the Niwot United Methodist Church officiating.
