To know her was to Love her. We are heartbroken and devastated to announce that our Beloved Wife, Mama, Nana, Sister, Aunt and Friend passed on to Heaven on February 4, 2022. Rebecca Louise (Becky) Romero was born May 19, 1946, to Henry and Alice Casados in Denver, Colorado. Becky unknowingly met “her guy”, who would become her husband and the love of her life, David Romero, at the age of 10, while both working the bean fields, Becky helping her mother sell snacks and soda pop and David working picking beans. David and Becky would later reconnect at Erie High School where she graduated in 1964 and David in 1965. The high school sweethearts were married in 1966 and while David served in the Air Force overseas Becky earned a Licensed Practical Nursing degree. Upon his return Becky and David lived in San Antonio, Texas, where David was stationed and in July of 1968, their son Anthony was born. They moved to Boulder, Colorado, a year later where Becky worked as an LPN at the University of Colorado and David attended university as a student. While in Boulder, their daughter Maria was born in May of 1972. After David graduated, with two children in tow, the family moved temporarily to Washington, D.C., where David attended federal law enforcement training. Once the school was complete, they returned to Colorado for good. Becky was always a supportive wife and devoted Mom to her young children in those early years of transition.
The family moved to Colorado’s western slope in 1974 and In December 1977, their daughter Melinda was born. While in Grand Junction she put her nursing career on hold to take care of her children, but wanting to continue her exploration of various endeavors she started businesses that included new home cleaning, sales of cosmetics and making and selling macrame. In January 1981, the family moved to Broomfield, Colorado, where Becky continued to be home with her children and started her business of making and selling drapes. Always putting her children first, she became a Girl Scout troop leader and attended all of her children's sports practices, games, recitals, plays, field trips. Always the “cool mom” that kids felt comfortable being around, she would drive her kids and their friends to school dances and on dates. They would always get to select the music in the car. It was during this time that she said she found her favorite job, that of working with children at the Wooden Shoe Preschools in Broomfield and Westminster. Eventually, she decided to go back to nursing and obtained her Registered Nursing Degree in 1995.
Becky enjoyed her retirement and spent most of it with her three granddaughters and her great granddaughter. Her faith and strength knew no bounds evidenced by her fighting and winning her battles against cancer twice, having to endure a number of rounds of chemotherapy, having a stroke that paralyzed her left side but resolved itself on a helicopter ride to a hospital but endured related seizures for two years until the right medicines were found.
She was married to David for 55 wonderful years and he said " She was my wife and I was her husband. I loved her and she loved me. She was my best friend and I was her best friend. We had three beautiful children, three beautiful granddaughters and a beautiful great granddaughter.
Becky lived for her family and was a woman who was strong in her faith. The relationships and the bonds she formed with each person were so special and unique. When you were with her, she made you feel like you were the only person in the world. She had warm, kind eyes and the most beautiful smile that would light up a room. She could give you a certain look and smile that told you that you were so very loved. Her children adored her and each one had a deep and special bond with their Mama. She was pure love. The best therapist who would talk them through the hardest situations and confidant who would listen and provide guidance. She never judged, only listened and loved. Her children are strong, loving and kind thanks to their Mama. Her grandchildren were her life, and each one had such a special bond with her. Nana was everyone’s favorite babysitter, and something she took pride in doing. She always wanted to do what her grandchildren were doing. She has jumped on countless trampolines with each grandchild, even a great-grandchild. She watched movie after movie; sang song after song, played dress-up, went to the library each summer, you name it, they would pile into her BMW and off they went on their next adventure. Becky was also a fantastic cook. She shared her heart through her cooking. The family always congregated in the kitchen while she was making one of her delicious meals. Becky passed on some of the most treasured gifts one can pass down; her recipes. If you were lucky enough to have Becky’s green chili or even participate in the annual Christmas tamale-making ritual, then you know. Out of this world doesn’t even begin to describe her cooking.
She was also a devoted daughter to her parents Henry and Alice. She would visit a few times a week, drive them to doctor appointments, and was their primary caregiver. She never looked at it as a job; it was her duty as their daughter and felt honored to help. We like to say, she held their hands as they walked to Heaven.
Becky is preceded in Heaven by her parents, Henry and Alice as well as her daughter, Maria She is survived by her loving and devoted husband David, Son Anthony Romero, Daughter in Law Jennifer Romero, Daughter Melinda Romero (Eric), Granddaughters Samantha Romero, Tyler Romero and Rylee Romero, Grandson Max Garthe and Great Granddaughter London Romero-Carrell, as well as Brother, Eugene Casados (Barbara), Sister, Paulette Dagenhardt (Rod), several nieces, nephews and friends.
Our family is heartbroken at the immeasurable loss of the “heart of our family” and each one of us will miss our beautiful Wife, Mama and Nana deeply but we find comfort in knowing that we will be reunited with her again in Heaven. Until then, we hope she is listening to her favorite music, cooking up a storm with her mom, having wonderful talks with her dad and going on many adventures with Maria. Until we meet again, we love you forever.
