Hailing from Wyoming, Michigan, and Wisconsin, depending on when you ask, he graduated from Ripon College and their ROTC program, moving directly into the service of his nation. In addition to his service, he earned a PhD in Vocational Education and an MBA. Richard - Dick, if you were friends, Pop if you were a grandchild - married Anne, the love of his life, in 1953. They were married for 69 years, although they dated for 3, and he was adamant that they got credit for them. Together they had three children, David, Jane, and Sarah, and a passel of assorted critters.
Over the course of his storied military career, he earned many medals and accolades, although he would tell you he was proudest that he was able to be of service to his country. He was a paratrooper with 60 jumps, and was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne. He earned the rank of Colonel before his retirement in 1980. After his time in the U.S. Army, he continued to work in his community, serving in the Pueblo and Red River Chambers of Commerce, teaching at Pueblo Community College, traveling the state facilitating community development projects, and writing for the Pueblo Chieftain. He also moonlit as a cowboy during round-ups on his family’s Wyoming ranch, and wrestled his last calf at 80 - something he was tremendously proud of.
At the heart of it, Richard was a beloved figure of his communities - retirement and otherwise. His family and his critters all loved him just as much as he loved them. Above all, he had a heart of steadfast and dedicated service.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Graham Hallock and Donald Hathaway Valentine Hallock, his brother, Peter Graham Hallock, his sister, Jane Hallock Trayser, as well as his daughter, Jane Hallock Baillargeon, and his beloved wife, Anne Barber Hallock. He is survived by his brothers, Donald Valentine Hallock and Thomas Michael James Hallock, his children, David Darrow Hallock and Sarah Anne Hallock Adderholt, as well as his grandchildren Jennifer Baillargeon-Hauck, Kathryn Baillargeon Bechtel, Hannah Hallock Ruffridge, Darrow Adderholt, and Hudson Adderholt, and 5 great-grandchildren.
